What an XGRIDS Setup Costs

The scanner is the one hardware purchase, and its price is in the store. Beyond it you pay for a processing workstation, for field consumables, and for LCC Studio Premium only if you need Gaussian Splat fusion and the open export formats. Point cloud processing software and its licenses come with the scanner.

Three Perpetual LixelStudio Licenses Included LCC Studio Basic Included One Recurring Software Cost

Hardware prices are not on this page. They are on the store pages, which are the only place a figure you are charged is published, so a guide page cannot drift from it.

Where the Money Goes

A working XGRIDS setup has four cost lines, and only one of them repeats every year.

  • The scanner, one time, priced in the store. Its package includes the processing software and its licenses.
  • A processing workstation, one time, and the item buyers most often underestimate. LCC Studio sets the bar, not LixelStudio.
  • LCC Studio Premium, $2,500 per year or $10,000 once for a perpetual license, only if you need what it unlocks. Basic is included with every scanner purchase and completes a single-session job end to end.
  • Field consumables: spare batteries, field storage and the mounts your sites need.

Processing time is the fifth line, and it is labor rather than purchase. It is covered under Time Is a Cost.

What Costs Nothing Extra

These arrive with the scanner and are not separate purchases.

IncludedWhat it means in practice
Three perpetual LixelStudio licensesPerpetual means you own them: no subscription, no renewal, no annual fee to keep processing the data you already captured. Install on up to three workstations, so a team processes in parallel without buying seats. LixelStudio is the full point cloud pipeline: SLAM optimization, RTK, PPK and control points, map fusion, noise and dynamic object filtering, face and license plate blurring, mesh, and export.
LCC Studio BasicIncluded with every scanner purchase, activated with a registered XGRIDS account. It covers a complete single-session Gaussian Splat workflow, through to publishing a scene on the web. Nothing in Basic expires and nothing about it is a trial.
WarrantyA 1-year warranty on the L3. Ask us for the warranty terms on the other devices before you order.
Map Fusion in LixelStudioUp to 10 maps per fusion, each session under 20 minutes per segment. Multi-session and campus-scale point cloud work needs no additional software purchase.

The point cloud deliverable has no recurring software cost. If your work is measurement, drawing extraction, CAD and Scan-to-BIM, the included licenses cover it permanently. The recurring cost below buys Gaussian Splat capability and open exports, not point cloud capability.

The One Subscription, and What It Unlocks

LCC Studio Premium is $2,500 per year, or $10,000 once for a perpetual license. The annual plan is the only recurring software cost in an XGRIDS setup, and Premium is optional either way. The current figure and what it covers are on the LCC Studio page.

Premium featureThe job it does
Map FusionCombines multiple capture sessions into one Gaussian Splat scene: up to 10 segments, 200 minutes combined. Without it, an LCC Studio scene is one session. This is the line item that decides Premium for most buyers, because a building or a campus rarely fits in one session.
Aerial-Ground Map FusionFuses a drone capture with a ground capture into one scene, which is how a site gets roofs and facades in the same model as its interiors and ground level.
HD EnhancementRaises detail in the reconstructed scene. Supported on Lixel K series, L series and P1.
Spatial RecognitionIdentifies and labels objects in the scene, and feeds the LCC plugin for Revit.
Open export formatsExports the scene to the formats other tools read, rather than only to LCC viewers. Budget Premium if the deliverable leaves the XGRIDS toolchain.

If you never fuse sessions, never need enhanced detail and deliver inside LCC viewers, Basic is the whole requirement and this line is zero.

The Processing Computer, and Why LCC Studio Sets the Bar

Size the workstation to LCC Studio, not to LixelStudio. A machine built for LCC Studio runs LixelStudio comfortably; the reverse is not true, and buying to the LixelStudio minimum is the most common way a setup needs a second purchase. Both run on Windows and need an NVIDIA GPU. AMD and Intel graphics are not supported.

What drives the cost: the graphics card, then memory. LixelStudio needs 64 GB and NVIDIA RTX 3060 or higher. LCC Studio needs 64 GB and NVIDIA RTX 3060 12 GB or NVIDIA Quadro RTX A4000 16 GB, and NVIDIA RTX 3090 or better for Map Fusion, which is the figure to budget against if you buy Premium. Storage is an SSD separate from the operating system drive.

The full requirement tables for both applications, at minimum and recommended, are on the L3 buying guide.

Batteries, Storage and Mounts

These are the purchases a first real job exposes. None is large individually and the set of them is not trivial.

Batteries

Count spare batteries against published operating time and the hours you intend to scan, not against the length of the working day. The L3 states 100 minutes of total operating time. The L2 Pro states 1.5 hours, and its firmware caps a single recording at 90 minutes, so long sites are captured as several sessions and fused afterwards either way. Charging in the field needs a vehicle or a site office, which is why crews carry spare batteries rather than chargers.

Storage

Onboard storage is not the constraint: the L3 carries 1 TB UFS and the L2 Pro 1 TB SSD. The workstation is the constraint. Budget project disk against the free-space rules above, which are multiples of project size rather than fixed amounts: LixelStudio wants at least 5 times the size of the original project folder, LCC Studio wants at least twice the capture size in free space, and enhancement in LixelStudio wants at least 25 times the size of the original map.las. An external SSD for field offload is a normal line item on a multi-day job.

Mounts and poles

The L3 fits standard RTK survey poles and marks control points directly from them, so a survey team that already owns poles buys nothing here. An L3 drone mount is in development for the DJI Matrice 400. Published mount options for the L2 Pro are handheld, backpack, vehicle and drone, a 6.6 ft (2 m) extension pole is available for it, and its control points are marked on the GCP Collection Base accessory. What is listed with each scanner, and what is sold separately, is on the store pages.

Time Is a Cost

Processing runs unattended, but it occupies the workstation and it sits between the scan and the deliverable, so it belongs in a quote. The variables are capture length, the outputs you need, whether sessions are fused, and whether the scene is enhanced. Scan time itself varies with the settings used.

Planning figures, and how to build them into a project estimate, are in Project Estimating in the XGRIDS Pro Guide. They are not restated here, so there is one place they can be corrected.

Cost Questions Buyers Actually Ask

Do I have to buy processing software separately?

No. Three perpetual LixelStudio licenses come with the scanner, and LCC Studio Basic is included with every scanner purchase. Point cloud, mesh, fusion and export are covered with no further purchase.

Is LCC Studio Premium required?

No. It is required for Map Fusion in Gaussian Splat scenes, Aerial-Ground Map Fusion, HD Enhancement, Spatial Recognition and the open export formats. If your deliverable is a point cloud, or a single-session scene published to the web, Basic covers it. Premium is $2,500 per year, or $10,000 once for a perpetual license; see the LCC Studio page.

Can I process on the laptop I already own?

Check it against the tables above before assuming so. The two conditions that rule a machine out are an AMD or Intel GPU, which neither application supports, and memory below 64 GB if you intend to use LCC Studio. A machine that clears the LixelStudio minimum but not the LCC Studio minimum will process point clouds and stall on Gaussian Splat reconstruction.

What does the scanner itself cost?

Hardware pricing is published in the store, by configuration and package, so it cannot drift from what you are charged. Which scanner to price is covered in Lixel L3 vs L2 Pro. Equipment financing is available through APPROVE, our financing partner: Apply for Financing.

Are there annual fees to keep using the scanner?

No. The LixelStudio licenses are perpetual, and nothing in the capture path is subscription-gated. The only annual figure in an XGRIDS setup is LCC Studio Premium on its annual plan, and only if you take it.

What do I budget on top of the scanner for a first job?

A workstation sized to LCC Studio, spare batteries against your scanning hours, project disk against the free-space rules, an external SSD for field offload, and the mounts your sites need. LCC Studio Premium on the annual plan is the only item on that list that repeats annually.
