1.2 Installing LixelGO
LixelGO is your field interface for the K1 and L2 Pro. Install it, grant the required permissions, activate your device, and confirm a working connection before you leave the office for a scan.
Installation
iOS
Search "LixelGO" in the App Store and install from the official XGRIDS publisher listing. Verify the publisher is XGRIDS before installing. The app is free.
Android
LixelGO for Android requires sideloading via APK rather than installation from the Google Play Store. Download the current APK from xgrids.com/support/download. Enable "Install from unknown sources" in your Android security settings before running the installer. After installation, this setting can be turned off again.
Minimum phone specifications: CPU with Snapdragon 865 or equivalent (Snapdragon 8-series preferred), 8 GB RAM minimum, Android 10 or later. iOS: A12 Bionic or later, 4 GB RAM or more, iOS 17.5 or later recommended. A phone that does not meet these requirements will connect but may lag or drop the real-time point cloud preview under load.
Permissions Required
LixelGO requires three permissions to function. Grant all three when prompted at first launch. Declining any of them will prevent connection or limit functionality.
- Bluetooth, used for initial device discovery and pairing
- Location, required on Android for Bluetooth Low Energy scanning (an Android OS requirement, not a data collection function)
- Hotspot / Local Network, required for WiFi connection to the scanner and for RTK/NTRIP configuration. The scanner communicates over the phone's hotspot during field use
Personal hotspot must be enabled on the phone to use RTK and NTRIP. If the phone has no SIM card, see the Bridge Mode section below. The scanner will continue scanning without the phone connection, but you will lose real-time preview and cannot configure RTK.
Device Activation
A new device ships with its LED showing solid yellow until it is activated. Activation registers the scanner to your XGRIDS account and unlocks full operation. This only needs to be done once per device.
Power On the Scanner
Hold the power button for 4 seconds. The LED will show slow-flashing blue during startup, then transition. On an unactivated device, it will show solid yellow at standby rather than solid green.
Open LixelGO and Tap "Add a New Device"
Ensure Bluetooth and hotspot are enabled on your phone before tapping. LixelGO will scan for nearby devices via Bluetooth.
Select Your Device from the List
The scanner will appear as "Lixel-XXXX" where XXXX is the last four characters of the device serial number. Select it and follow the on-screen prompts.
Enter the Activation Code from Your Activation Card
The activation code is printed on the card that shipped with the device. Enter it exactly as printed. After successful activation, the LED will change from yellow to solid green.
First Connection, Direct Connect Mode
Direct Connect is the standard connection mode for field use. The scanner connects to your phone's WiFi hotspot. This gives the scanner access to the phone's cellular data, which is required for RTK NTRIP corrections. Enable hotspot on your phone before opening LixelGO.
Power On the Scanner
Hold 4 seconds. Wait for solid green LED (standby).
Enable Bluetooth and Hotspot on Your Phone
Both must be active before opening LixelGO. If you open the app before enabling them, close and re-open after enabling.
Open LixelGO and Select Your Device
The app discovers the scanner via Bluetooth. Tap the device name in the list. LixelGO will prompt you to enter your phone's hotspot SSID and password so the scanner can connect to it.
Enter Your Hotspot Credentials
Type your hotspot name and password exactly. The scanner will connect to your phone's hotspot. Once the connection status shows confirmed, LixelGO will display the scanner status screen with battery level, storage, and firmware version.
Test this connection before a project scan, not on the day of the scan. The first-time connection process takes 5 to 10 minutes on some phones. Knowing how your specific phone and OS handle the connection prevents delays in the field. On Android, disable battery optimization for LixelGO so the OS does not throttle the app during long sessions.
Scan data is stored on the scanner only, not on the phone. The phone is a control interface. Nothing from the scan session is written to your phone's storage or uploaded to any cloud service during scanning.
No SIM Card or Offline Scanning
If the field phone has no SIM card or no cellular signal, use Bridge Mode. Both the scanner and the phone connect to the same WiFi network (a hotspot from a secondary device, or a local WiFi access point). LixelGO communicates with the scanner over that shared network instead of the phone's own hotspot.
Enable a Hotspot on a Secondary Device
Use any phone, mobile router, or local WiFi network. Keep the network name simple: no spaces, no special characters, no emojis. Complex network names cause connection failures.
Connect Both the Field Phone and the Scanner to That Network
In LixelGO, select Bridge Mode from the connection settings. The scanner will connect to the shared network. The field phone must also be on the same network.
Proceed as Normal
Once both devices are on the same network, LixelGO operates identically to Direct Connect mode. RTK NTRIP corrections will work in Bridge Mode if the shared network has internet access. If the shared network is an isolated local WiFi with no internet, NTRIP will not function.
The scanner will continue to record scan data even if the phone connection is lost mid-scan. However, you will lose real-time preview and the ability to mark control points through the app. For uninterrupted field control, maintain the connection throughout the session.
