LixelStudio activation codes are not included in the box. After you register and activate your device in LixelGO, retrieve the full device serial number (SN) from the app. Then go to xgrids.com/intl/activationrequest and submit the SN to request your activation codes. 3 permanent codes will be sent to your registered email address. Each code activates LixelStudio on 1 machine and cannot be reused. Keep these codes secure. There is no self-service recovery if they are lost.

The full SN must be retrieved through the LixelGO app. Do not attempt to read the SN from a label or use image-to-text tools. Character recognition errors between "0" (zero) and "O" (letter) or "1" (one) and "l" (letter) cause activation failures that cannot be detected until the code is rejected.

Battery Installation and Initial Charge

Batteries ship partially charged. Before the first scan session, charge each battery to full. Do not operate the scanner on a first-time depleted or unknown charge state for a project scan.

Battery Installation (L2 Pro)

1

Open the Battery Lock Lever

The lever is located at the base of the scanner. Pull it to the open position before inserting the battery.

2

Insert the Battery Along the Guiding Slot

Slide the battery in from the bottom, following the guiding slot. Push until the battery is fully seated. A battery that is not fully inserted will feel loose.

3

Press the Lever Back to Lock

Lock the lever firmly. A battery that is not locked can slip during scanning. This is not recoverable during an active session.

Battery Installation (K2)

The K2 uses a clip-on battery design without a separate lock lever. Press the battery buckle, align the battery with the contact rails on the scanner body, and press firmly until it clicks into place. Confirm the battery is fully seated by attempting to wiggle it; a properly clipped battery will not move. To remove, press the release buckle and pull the battery away from the scanner.

Charging

Connect the charger to the battery charging port using the included cable. The battery indicator will show charge level during charging. Charge each battery to full before field use. Cold temperatures slow charging and reduce runtime by approximately 20 percent.

The L2 Pro uses a 46.8 Wh battery rated for approximately 90 minutes of scanning per charge, about 2 hours to a full charge. The K2 uses a 1,900 mAh clip-on battery rated for approximately 1.5 hours of scanning per charge, about 2 hours to a full charge. Plan battery count based on total expected scan duration plus a margin for initialization and travel time between areas.

Power On and Indicator Lights

To power on, press and hold the power button for 4 seconds. The indicator light will change from slow-flashing blue to solid green. Solid green means the device is in standby and ready to connect or scan.

The indicator light is the primary communication channel between the scanner and the operator. Learn these patterns before the first scan. Acting on a misread light state is one of the most common causes of data loss.

LED Pattern
State and Meaning
Off
Device not started
Slow-flashing blue
Starting up
Solid green
Standby mode: ready to connect or scan
Fast-flashing green
Starting or stopping a scan, or saving data
Slow-flashing green
Scanning mode: actively recording
Solid blue
USB mode: data transfer active
Solid yellow
Device not activated: activation required before use
Solid white
Mode switching in progress
Solid red
Critical error
Red-green alternating
Firmware update in progress (battery must be above 50%)

Fast-flashing green after stopping a scan means the device is saving. Do not power off during this state. The save duration ranges from 5 to 60 seconds depending on scan length. Powering off during a save corrupts the scan file. Wait for solid green before doing anything.

To power off from standby, press and hold the power button for 4 seconds. The light will change from solid green to flashing white (saving), then off once the device has shut down completely. Never force-power-off by removing the battery unless the device is unresponsive.

Firmware Verification and Updates

Current firmware is required for stable operation and for compatibility with the current versions of LixelGO and LixelStudio. Check the firmware version before the first scan. Connect the scanner to LixelGO and the app reports the installed version and prompts you if an update is available.

Two Kinds of Update

XGRIDS splits firmware into minor and major upgrades, and the app tells you which one you are being offered. Minor upgrades install inside the app with nothing to download by hand. Major upgrades cannot install through the app; you download the package and copy it onto the scanner yourself. Major packages are usually larger than 1 GB, but treat that as a characteristic rather than the rule. Go by what the app says, not by the size of the file.

Transfer any scan data off the device before a major upgrade. Projects captured under older firmware may stop appearing in the app once the upgrade completes. Copy the work to your computer and confirm it opens first. On a new device this rarely applies, but make it a habit now rather than discovering it on a job.

Do not skip firmware versions. If a scanner is several releases behind, it must be brought forward one published release at a time, in order. A new device out of the box is rarely far behind, but check before installing anything. The published upgrade chain is in 10.5 Firmware Updates.

Charge above 50 percent before starting either kind of update, and do not interrupt one in progress. The LED alternates red and green throughout. Do not power off, disconnect, or remove the battery during that state. A failed firmware update can leave the scanner unresponsive and requires manufacturer recovery.

Minor Upgrades: Install in the App

1

Connect the Scanner to LixelGO

Power the device on and wait for solid green standby before connecting. If you have not set up the app yet, do that first in 1.2 LixelGO and come back.

2

Accept the Update Prompt

The app raises the prompt on its own when an update is available. If it tells you a major upgrade is required, stop and use the procedure below instead.

3

Wait Without Touching the Device

The LED alternates red and green while the update runs, and the scanner may restart on its own. Both are expected. Leave it alone until the LED returns to solid green.

4

Confirm the New Version

Check the firmware version in the LixelGO device settings before you scan anything. An update that appeared to finish but did not change the version number has not finished.

Major Upgrades: Copy to the Device over USB

1

Download the Firmware Package and Leave It Compressed

On a desktop browser, go to xgrids.com and open Support, then choose Download from the dropdown. Select your scanner from the list on the left and download the firmware package for that model. Use no other source. Do not unzip or extract it: you copy the compressed package itself onto the scanner, and extracting it first is the most common reason a correct download will not install.

2

Switch the Device to USB Mode

L2 Pro: connect the scanner to LixelGO, then enable USB Mode in the LixelGO settings. K2: simply connect the USB cable and the scanner switches to USB drive mode by itself, with the indicator changing from green to blue. Only if it does not switch do you intervene, either from LixelGO or with the power button: single-press so the light turns white, then press again. Solid blue confirms USB mode is active on either device.

3

Connect by USB-C and Confirm the Drive Appears

The scanner mounts as a drive on your computer. If it does not appear, unplug the USB-C connector, rotate it 180 degrees, and plug it back in. The port is orientation-sensitive, and a connector inserted the wrong way round is the most common reason a healthy scanner will not mount.

4

Copy the Package to the Device Root Directory

Copy the firmware file to the top level of the device storage. Do not place it in a subfolder. A package inside a folder is ignored and the upgrade will not start.

5

Exit USB Mode, Then Power Off and Back On

Safely eject the drive and remove the cable from both the computer and the scanner. On the L2 Pro, then disable USB Mode in the LixelGO settings; the K2 exits by itself and its indicator returns to green. Now power the scanner off and back on. It detects the package and enters firmware upgrade mode automatically, with the LED alternating red and green. Do not power off and do not remove the battery during that state. Wait for solid green, then confirm the new version in the app.

There is a third route once your workstation is set up. LixelStudio can install firmware directly over USB without the phone, which is useful when no phone is available or an in-app update will not complete. You install LixelStudio in 1.4, so it is not an option yet on your first day. The full procedure is in 10.5 Firmware and Software Updates, along with the version compatibility rules that decide which processing software release your firmware requires.

Function Key Reference

The physical button on the scanner performs all primary operations. You can run an entire scan session without opening LixelGO once scanning starts, using only the button and the indicator light to manage state.
